NEW MYSPACE BLOG & VIDEO + INTERVIEW UPDATE

For those of you who didn't know, Mike posted a new blog last Monday on his MySpace:

Whew! Though rainy, this summer has been seriously busy. I just said goodbye to my Aussie friends yesterday...which was ridika sad. My sister's best friends, a couple, came over for a few weeks with their little boy Angus (no relation to my dog...who did have the name first). The wife in the couple was actually my guardian on Zack Files back in the day and they used to live in our basement. So it was nonstop chilling with them which has been awesome.

About ten of us went up to my cottage for a week where we hand the first annual "Muskook-Off". We all coupled off and were in charge of all three meals for one day, and then everyone voted on who was best. The competition was fierce to win the "X-FACTOR!" award. My partner and I won best dinner, but not the big over-all award. Not, gonna lie...I'm still a little bitter. On Saturday I caught up with my oldest friend, Eryn, who I have literally know since the day I was born. We hadn't seen each other in almost two years, but its amazing when you hangout with those certain people where nothing has changed..you just pick-up right where you left off. We went to the EX, a carnivally thing. I always find those sketchy fairs really fun, cuz you never know if the whole ride is going to fall apart when you're on it! I also actually got to meet some of my myspace friends in person. That was definitely wicked to get to chat with some of you guys. Shout out to all of you and I hope I get a chance to meet the rest of you sometime soon.

Anyways....just thought I'd catch up with you guys and I hope you're making the best of the last bit of summer...and those of you in other hemispheres...I'm jealous that your summer is only just about to start!

Olympics? Love them. Pretty much my favorite way to fall asleep is lying on the couch and drift off to Gold Medal Glory> have you guys been enjoying them (Obvious poliyical issues aside)?

LIFE WITH MICHAEL SEATER: WHO NEEDS L.A.?

Maybe, if you're an actor in Canada today, you don't need to head to Los Angeles to boost your career. Maybe it's possible, especially if you work in television, to stay and still be a star.

Michael Seater thinks so. He has never been to L.A. Not even the airport. The 21-year-old Toronto native stars in the just-announced CBC-ABC pilot 18 to Life - and he still doesn't have to head south. The pilot was filmed in Montreal.

18 to Life comes after three years as the titular character on popular tween sitcom Life with Derek, a Gemini-nominated role on the cult hit ReGenesis, and portraying the ultimate Canadian anti-hero - a young Conrad Black in the TV biopic.

"With ABC buying 18 to Life, it's American television but you can still be here. It's a really nice door that's opening, with Flashpoint [CTV/CBS] and The Listener [CTV/NBC]. You can still be here and have success," Seater said in a recent interview.

Life with Derek has already turned him into a much-loved face in the tween market on both sides of the border, and in many of the 115 countries it airs in. In person, Seater has a sweet charming way with kids who inevitably become dumbstruck in his presence.

Life with Derek is one of Family Channel's Top 10 series. Seater's star got a little hotter when Disney, a well-established creator of careers, asked him to be reporter-at-large during the Disney Channel Games and chase down megastars like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers for interviews.

Flying down to Florida in April to take part in the event was the closest he had ever come to looking for work stateside. "I was supposed to go down to L.A. for the last three pilot seasons, but I always come up with a viable excuse not to go," he says. "I'm really comfortable here."

Seater already owns a condo along Toronto's waterfront and bought a cottage on tony Lake Muskoka last spring, a few months after he turned 20. "I also got a car because I had to be able to get there, and it's on an island so I had to get a boat."

"Why go to L.A? I like what's going on here!"

Seater, the youngest of three siblings, was always a performer, singing so often for Grandma at Sunday dinner that his parents found him an agent when he was 8. He made a lot of commercials, then ended up in short film by Andrew Currie (Fido),

From there came the kids' TV shows (The Zack Files, Blake Holsey High, Life with Derek), TV movies and eventually minor roles in feature films.

"I've worked for eight years straight in Toronto," he says. "My friends are here, my family is here, my home is here, my cottage is up north, I'm really happy here."

He's chatting amiably this afternoon outside his local Starbucks. To sit at this Harbourfront patio, Seater sports oversized sunglasses paired with scruffy Vans sneakers, skinny jeans and a zipper necklace.

If the eyewear keeps him from being recognized today, he might not be so lucky in a more heavily trafficked teen/tween location. Toronto born and raised, Seater says he had to stop riding the subway because he would feel trapped.

"I'm all for meeting new people, but it can be awkward," he says. "They come up to you and they're like, 'Hi Michael, how are you?' and you're like, 'Nice to meet you.' And then they just stare. And I'm thinking, 'But you came up to me! It's your responsibility to keep this conversation going."

If young admirers are dumbstruck, their mothers are more persistent, he says. However, pesky parents may stop using their daughters as an excuse to meet him if ABC green-lights 18 to Life for more episodes, as is expected.

On TV he ages only a year: from 17 in Life with Derek to legal adult on the new show. But it's a big leap for Seater. Now that Derek has finished (the fourth and final season begins airing on Family in the spring) he has to find a older fan base.

This new show will help: Portraying a newlywed teenager (with co-star Stacey Farber of Degrassi: The Next Generation) means playing a more nuanced character that gets thrust into more adult situations. The role, he says, "is very much where I am in my life right now. I'm getting out of being a kid, but not quite playing adult roles yet."

18 to Life has been making news lately too. While there is no word on whether the show has been picked up or not, I think the chances are good with all the current buzz. Did you know that this show is the first to have both American and Canadian involvement in the pilot stages? Hopefully, we'll have news soon about its status.

Last, but not least, we are having more problems with the gallery. Both Fran and I are unable to login, and from the sounds of it, neither can the rest of you. Fran is currently trying to fix the problem. Hopefully, we can all enjoy the new Mike pictures in the very near future.

CHO!

Hope all is well out there in the interweb and beyond (you know, like the real, physical (and metaphysical) world). Life is continuing its busy/relax/busy/relax kind of way. Graham and I just finished our first draft of our Family Biz script. Whew, that a bid weight off our shoulders, for sure. But we did write sitting on my dock...so not too stressful! I just came down from up north so my brother and his wife could celebrate their 1rst year anniversary without me annoying them. Back in the smoke, but I can hook with some friends I haven't seen in a while which is always good.

Last week, I'm not gonna lie, was definitely good times. The JoBros were in town rehearsing for the burnin' up tour and was great to catch up with them. My friend Adrienne and I went and caught the show, and it is pretty ridiculous. I watched the dress rehearsal (made the mistake of walking out into the stands before the show and almost got trampled) and opening night with Selena Gomez, we quickly came up with our own set of dance moves and words to some of the songs. She's hilarious. It boggles my mind how hard those boys work, I don't think I could ever keep up with that schedule, but it was also really neat to see how involved in everything they were. You can clearly see they know their stuff and don't mess around.

Well, I'm off to go meet Adrienne. She's hilarious. I wanna vlog with her soon...if I can convince her...challenge

MIKE ATTENDS BURNING UP TOUR + NEW LWD EPISODE

I found this quite interesting.

According to other attendees, Mike attended the Toronto leg of the Jonas Brothers' Burning Up Tour. Of course, if anybody has any pictures, feel free to contact Fran or me.

Also, a second episode has been announced for Season 4 of LWD. Open Mic Plight" will premiere on August 3. Can't wait!

Hey guys,

Sorry I've been so MIA, but things have been seriously crazy lately. Last week, or I guess it was the week before last, I was shooting an episode of this new show called Family Biz, doing a guest star. It was a lot of fun, but I was narsty amounts of sick, and having to commute to Montreal to prep for another show. But I blew my nose (gross) before every take and powered through it. Finally I was feeling better and then started a hectic schedule for a new Pilot (new pilot? kinda redundant). It's a dramedy sitcom called "18 to Life". I first read the scripts and I thought they were so sweet and funny and I'm ecstatic to be on the show. Even better my co-star is Stacey Farber from Degrassi. We have a bunch of mutual friends, but never met before the final auditions. Needless to say we hit it off. Stacey has a wicked dry humor, and we share a love of rare vintage finds. In our down time we got to go to the mountain hippie-fest drum circle thing, Tam Tams (battling larpers are amazing!). It was a good Sunday. Stacey bought a "spiritual" blanket and I got a little leather "thought" book. I met up with some buddies who go to school out there and played some croquet in the park. New show, new friends, old friends, cool city...life could be worse. Just as I was heading home on the train (I'm trying to cut down on my flights/carbon footprint) hoping to maybe finally sleep a little my manager called and said that my brother and I are writing an episode for Family Biz! This is our first episode since Derek, so it kind of makes us feel legitimized. People actually like our work!...I think. Anyways. I should probably hit the hay, gotta meet up with Graham and break the story tomorrow. Hope all is well with you guys. And I believe school is almost out... Welcome to Summer.

According to a new press release, Mike will be filming a guest star appearance on a new YTV show called "Family Biz" next week! He'll be playing the role of Warren Silver, the family's new intern.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Good News everyone, we have a date for the premiere of LWD Season 4! Disney Channel will air the first episode called "Two Kisses, One Party." on July 20th 8:30PM EST / 7:30PM CST.

Life With Derek - Season 1 will arrive in stores on October 14th. The 2-disc set will have 13 episodes, plus extras such as Interviews, Behind-the- Scenes, "B-Roll" footage (details still to be announced), and more! Cost will be $29.98 SRP. Stay tuned for package art and more info, just as soon as Koch Vision finalizes all the details of this release! Season 2 will be released on New Year's 2010! The books are available on Amazon.com from June 19th.

& The Disney Channel Games starting date has changed to July 27.

Hey, finaly a new layout! The design is made by Andruco, the first one I didnt do myself so I hope you like it :)

As for the Disney Channel Games, he is a commentator so that why he wasnt in any of the official team lists. We will have some photos from the event soon.

Hey guys. Hope all is well. I'm pretty stoked right now, cuz I'm heading down to Orlando for the DC Games. I haven't been on the Myspace for a little while, sorry about that. So I'm sitting here in the airport trying to click away all the friend requests. Thanks for the add! It's taking forever though, because this wireless in this lounge is like straight out of 1998. Seriously, what's the deal? These lounges are pretty funny. Stuffy old business peeps peer over their papers with sniveling looks that scream "YOU DON'T BELONG" I'm not sure which stands out more: the white macbook or the plaid bomber jacket. I can't wait to get down to FLA. See some of these DC cats I haven't seen in ages and meet lots of new folk. It's my first time going, and I won't lie, I'm a little bit nervous. I'm heading down there pretty much by myself and I don't know anybody super well! But I have faith that these games really do bring everyone together and we'll all have an awesome time! Note to self: Dude, you're spending ten days hanging out in Disney World ...what are you nervous about....True Mike, true,

Onto the LWD news, Canadians will be released the first 3 Seasons on DVD this year!
KOCH Vision will distribute DVDs of the first three seasons, totaling 52 half-hour episodes, in North America in Q4 2008 (Around October 2008).

It's pretty much official now that Mike and Fefe Dobson are an item! It's only a very new relationship. All the best to them. :)
